This indicator reports direct economic loss due to disasters that is covered by the Natural Catastrophe Insurance of Iceland. The Natural Catastrophe Insurance of Iceland insures against direct damage resulting from the following natural disasters: volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, landslides, avalanches and flooding. The large peaks observable in the data are due to avalanches e.g. in Flateyri (1995) and earthquakes in Southern Iceland (2000 and 2008) |
